CHRISTIAN SILVAIN's ARTISTIC SPARK
1959 - 1968
Christian Silvain was born in 1950 in the German-speaking town of Eupen, Belgium. He spent most of his childhood in the company of his two older aunts, who ignited his love for drawing and painting at a young age. While his aunts ran their toy store, he devoted countless hours to his passion for art. This nurturing environment allowed him to further develop his talent and enthusiasm over the years.
After the passing of his aunts, Silvain, at the age of 16, moved to the bustling city of Brussels. There, he made a living by singing his own lyrics in cafes and restaurants. This period was challenging and brought difficult moments, yet it also defined the quintessential artist's journey. The struggle to balance creativity with livelihood is a common narrative among artists, and Silvain was no exception. Despite the hardships, he experienced fruitful encounters, notably with Jacques Brel and Maurice Béjart, for whom he painted décors. These early years were instrumental in shaping his artistic voice, blending the rawness of youthful passion with the resilience forged through adversity.
