Clairières (open spaces) is a continuation of the series “Memoirs of an Angel,” a series of artworks created by Christian Silvain in 2019. It is the unveiling of the artist’s intimate reflection. Disappointed by the human soul and the chaos in his life, Silvain delved into the realization of this series of paintings. This resulted in a creative oasis. A long period of introspection and solitude would lead to the creation of eighteen large works.
On large wooden panels, Christian meticulously and refinedly creates his realizations using pencils, pastels, and collages. He gives life anew to childish objects, dolls, clocks, and animals in his works.
Clearings offer an escape to the outside. They are the way out that must lead to the light. The forests and woods, mythical spaces from the artist’s childhood, tirelessly return to soothe his pain. From memories arises an eternal beginning. Silvain reinterprets his past to shape his future.
To fully preserve the series, the eighteen works of Clairières were donated to the Christian Silvain Foundation. In honor of this, the works were inaugurated on March 1 during the exhibition “Clairières” in Eupen, Silvain’s hometown. For this occasion, the Silvain bus was deployed to attend the exhibition opening along with “Vrienden van Silvain” and members of the Christian Silvain Foundation.
